Classroom
Policy
I believe that it is vital for parents and students to know how the classroom will be conducted, what my expectations are of the students, as well as what to expect from me. Below are a few highlighted areas that will help transition students into middle school here at GCA.
Attendance/Tardy-All attendance/tardy will be recorded in RenWeb. If a student receives an unexcused tardy, the reason will be documented in the comment section. If a student accumulates 4 unexcused tardies per class in a semester (6 for homeroom classes), a detention will be issued in accordance with the student handbook. Students who are unprepared (missing things such as needed textbooks, homework, paper, pencil, etc.) will receive an unexcused tardy.
Missed Work- If a student is absent, they are responsible for obtaining all assignments covered during their absence. An "A" will be put in the grade book until the assignment is turned in, or it becomes past due. the handbook states:
For absences other than prearranged ones, the student
will have one school day for every day missed (max. of
five days) to complete the make up work... If a student
misses only the day a test is given or project/assignment
is due, the student is responsible to make up the work the
first day he/she returns, provided the student was informed of the due date in advance of the absence. If a student returns to school on the day of a pre-announced test or quiz after a short absence, the student is expected to take the test or quiz on the day it is given.
Lesson Plans- Lesson plans will be accessible via RenWeb by Friday for the next week. If a student loses a handout, they will have the ability to download handouts from this website and print them to turn in. Extra copies will not be given. If an assignment is not completed when the teacher collects it, the student may turn that assignment in for a late grade. An "M" will be put in the grade book until the assignment is completed. The policy is as follows for each semester:
Late Work Policy First Semester (6th grade only)
1 day late= 20% off the graded assignment
2 days late= 50% off the graded assignment
3 days late will result in zero credit given
Late Work Policy Second Semester (7th grade's year long policy)
(In order to prepare students for 7th and 8th grade,
we will adhere to their late work policy. This will begin
at the start of the second semester for 6th graders.)
1 day late= 50% off the graded assignment
2 days late will result in zero credit given

Daily Assignments-Submitted work should be the very in the best penmanship. While cursive is not required, all work should be neat and legible. Unsatisfactory assignments are subject to be redone at the expense of the student. All hand written assignments must be completed in pencil. Failure to comply will result in point deduction. Students need to include their first and last name along with the date in the upper right hand corner.
Projects-Projects
will be conducted periodically. Students will be given verbal instruction as
well as handouts to help with due dates and what they will need to know. Some projects will require items to be
brought in from home while others will be primarily completed in the
classroom.
